Funnel check

Basecamp revenue leak report

On mobile, Basecamp's main offer took more than 20 seconds to finish appearing in this check. A paid visitor can lose patience long before the page gets to the pitch.

Owner brief

Basecamp's homepage, pricing page, mobile experience, and 20 important links were checked. One issue stood out: the mobile page made the core offer wait far too long. The links we checked worked, and the pricing page loaded with clear free and paid choices.

The leak to fix

Mobile visitors can wait 20 seconds for the pitch

In this check, the main offer took 20.9 seconds to finish appearing on mobile. The same page finished in well under a second on desktop.

The likely weight is sitting in the images. The mobile visit downloaded about 4 MB, and the page could have avoided roughly 3 MB by sending images closer to the size the phone actually needed.

That gap matters. Someone who arrives curious can leave before Basecamp gets the chance to explain the product or show the tour.

Start with the large product preview images. Serve smaller versions to phones, then delay images that sit below the first screen. Keep the headline and tour button ahead of everything that does not help the visitor decide.

FunnelWatch should time the main offer on a real phone-sized visit after every homepage change. It should warn you when image weight climbs or the offer starts arriving late again.

What we checked

The path covered the Basecamp homepage and pricing page. We checked mobile and desktop loading, the main page copy, tracking parameters, and 20 important links. The free-account and paid-trial buttons were visible on pricing, but no account form was opened or submitted. Checkout, payment, confirmation email, and signed-in product screens were not tested.

Ad-to-page message match was not assessed because no current Basecamp paid ad with a verified destination was available. No claim about paid creative was made.
