Smartsheet's mobile trial path puts two delays in front of signup
A new mobile visitor can wait nine seconds for the main page, then hit a privacy panel that covers the trial button.
Owner brief
We checked Smartsheet's homepage and followed "Try Smartsheet for free" to the first signup step on desktop and mobile. Two problems stood out. The mobile page is slow to show its main promise. Then the privacy panel gets between the visitor and the trial button.
Ad-to-page message match was not assessed because we could not verify current paid creative. The findings below apply to anyone arriving on the public homepage and taking the free-trial path.

The leaks
The privacy panel covers the mobile trial button
The homepage asks visitors to "Try Smartsheet for free." On the first mobile signup screen, the work-email field appears, but the privacy panel covers the button beneath it and hides the other signup choices.

That interruption lands at the exact moment a visitor has decided to start. They must stop, read another message, and make a privacy choice before they can continue. Every extra decision here gives a ready prospect a reason to leave.
First, keep the trial button visible above the panel on common phone sizes. A shorter notice or a smaller bottom sheet would preserve the required choice without taking over the signup screen. Keep watching this first mobile step whenever the consent tool or signup layout changes.
Mobile visitors can wait nine seconds for the main promise
In our mobile check, the first page content took 4.9 seconds to appear. The main content finished appearing after 9.1 seconds. The same main content appeared in 1.5 seconds on desktop.
A prospect should not have to stare at a loading page after choosing to visit. That delay spends attention before Smartsheet gets to explain the product or earn a trial click.
Start with the opening mobile screen. Remove or delay page code and media that do not help the headline and trial button appear. Recheck the homepage after site, tag, and campaign changes so this delay does not return unnoticed.
Scope of this audit
Funnel depth tested: homepage to the first trial signup screen. We checked the public homepage on desktop and mobile, followed the free-trial link, reviewed the first signup step, checked 20 page links, and confirmed that the page kept test campaign details in the address.
We did not enter an email, create an account, submit a form, test onboarding, or review confirmation and sales follow-up emails.
Why this keeps coming back
These leaks can sit quietly for weeks because every piece still works. The homepage loads eventually. The privacy panel is dismissible. The trial form is still there. But together they make a ready mobile prospect work harder than necessary.
FunnelWatch keeps checking the path after pages, tags, consent rules, and signup flows change, so Smartsheet can catch the interruption before more visitors hit it.
